Like everyone else I was looking forward to FoCo Fall Break. While some of my studio families were planning trips I was planning to catch up on home repairs and continue to organized things to donate and sell during my downsizing project. Then an e-mail changed all my plans. An opportunity for a gig with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra! I have to drive the very following day for a rehearsal in the evening. At first I hesitated as I didn't feel that I would have enough time to prepare. But then, the colleague that offered me this gig opportunity reminded me that life's gifts do not always come to us when we are "prepared". I decided to take the job and it was the best thing I have done in a while. What a wonderful reminder it was of the joy that is to make music with others and be immersed in and be a part of all that beautiful music making. And, what a bunch of nice people these musicians from the NFSO are!!! The repertoire was beautiful and there were so many "coincidences", like another musician knew the daughter of my violin professor from Brazil, the female trombone and French horn players both, had cases made someone that I went to high school with, and the young soloist playing the Grieg A minor piano concerto was the student of a good friend from my college years. To top it all, I discovered after my return home to GA that the orchestra's manager had worked in Brazil. My last day I had the opportunity of visiting friends living in Pensacola and enjoy a sunset at Destin beach. This is was definitely a surprise gift from the Universe through music, with so many nice details that I would not be able to put together if I tried.
